Descprition

One of Abertay's selling points is the access to sony development kits for Vita, PS3, PS4 and even PS-VR. With this i got a chance to create a AR based application on the Vita systems. For my application i created a pokemon themed AR positioned and turn based RPG prototype. The idea for this was using the AR system to bring pokemon cards to life, choosing your team (A player card to focus around, and support cards that buff the player) by the cards the camera can see. The RPG function was very basic, a turn based gameplay loop with a few attack options.

The main feature of my application was in bringing the cards to life and using the positions strategically in the way the cards positions impacted how support cards help the player. You can see with the images in the slide show, the support cards all have 2 buffs that are applied dependent on the player cards location. For example, if the support card 2 (Togetic) is ahead of the player card, it applies a ticking healing buff. If it is behind the player, it applies a defensive buff to reduce damage taken. The artworks used for the cards, were not made by me, they were sourced from google, and were used in a university assessment with no commercial availability.
